Hi Neighbor!
Continued
Cross the Street Day is held the third Saturday of May. Mark your calendar now. You can make this a fun and memorable day for your community by extending a hand of friendship and hospitality to another neighbor

Today more than ever we need strong communities and their foundation is in the relationships that we have with one another – namely our neighbors.  Studies have shown that healthy relationships with our neighbors impact our lives to such a degree that we can actually add years to our lifespan.

The goal of Cross the Street has always been to motivate people to return to the ‘old–fashioned’ concept of neighborhood friendliness. There’s been a marked decline in the type of neighborhood interaction our parents and grandparents enjoyed. The typical neighborhood block was a fun, friendly and safe place for our families. It will take work and effort on our part but we can revive that concept ‘neighbor-by-neighbor'.

The sprawling front porch with neighbors gathering for informal and impromptu chats has been replaced with backyard decks and six-foot tall privacy fences around our homes. While there’s nothing wrong with enjoying our personal surroundings, Cross the Street Day is a time to encourage neighbors to make a difference in their community by interacting (hey, just say Hi!) with a neighbor on their neighborhood blocks face to face.
