Got Kom* mu` ni-ti?
Continued
This is the focus of "Cross the Street Day."  On May 19, 2007 "Cross the Street" will be celebrating its 5th Annual Day Anniversary.  The concept is simple.  On "Cross the Street Day" neighbors are encouraged to get to know those whom they live among by knocking on a door, meeting on a sidewalk, or even stopping while backing out of a driveway. Whatever the opportunity, make a deliberate effort to get to know someone you have not me living on your block.

If you happen to already know all of your neighbors then take this opportunity to reinforce a friendship that has already been established or if there is someone you know that might not be acquainted with others on your block be the one to make the introductions.  Your block could easily become the friendliest block in your neighborhood.

Min. Rhonda Webb of Faith Harvest Church gave birth to this idea in 2001 when she became a new resident to this area.  Coming from her own personal experience of being the stranger in a new community she understands first hand the challenges of making a new connection with others she didn't know. With it being said "necessity is the  mother of invention" she took it upon herself to develop a strategy to make it easier for neighbors to become acquainted with one another by simply being friendly.  Fuchsia colored door hangers will spread the word to your neighbors to let them know to expect a kindhearted gesture from you on "Cross the Street Day.

Cultivating friendships is the foundation to building good, solid communities. Since its inception "Cross the Street Day" has proven to be an important and welcomed annual event.  It has received proclamations from the City of Saginaw, Saginaw County Board of Commissioners, Bridgeport Charter Township, Tittabawassee Township and Buena Vista Charter Township.

In 2005 Buena Vista made the commitment to take their communityto a whole new level of friendliness by recognizing the 3rd Saturday in May as the annual celebration of "Cross the Street Day."  On April 23, 2007 a proclamation was presented to min. Rhonda webb on behalf of "Cross the Street Day' by the Buena Vista Charter Township Board.

This year will be no exception; Buena Vista Charter Township will be hosting a Cross the Street Day event at the B.V. Community Center located at 1940 S. Outer Drive. Saginaw, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  This event is desgned to draw members of that community to a common ground so that relationships can be established.  There will be refreshments as well as other activites and guest speakers.

Mn. Webb is once again very grateful to these communities for their much valued support and would like to thank the Saginaw City Council, the Bridgeport Charter Township and the Saginaw County Board of Commissioners for their continued support.

On April 24, 2007, the Saginaw County Board of commissioners presented Min. Rhonda Webb with a proclamation.

All other municipalities are strongly encouraged to take part and show support to this vital task of cultivating community by hosting your own "Cross the Street Day" event and take the challenge of making your neighborhood the friendliest in the county.

Min. Webb's strongest supporters are her pastors the Reverends Ronald and Phyllis Chipp of Faith Harvest Church.

Faith Harvest Church will again host a "Cross the Street Day" rally on May 18, 2007 at the church located at 1734 N, Mason, Saginaw, Michigan.  The community is invited to join in on the activities, starting at 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. including games, entertainment and refreshments.  Guest speakers include, State Representative Andy Coulouris 95th District, Saginw County Commissioner Bregitte Braddock and 1000 Leaders Initiative founder, Mr. Gene Pickleman.

The State Police Bomb Squad, the Saginaw Fire Department and LifeNet of Michigan will also provide information, tours and demonstrations in the church parking lot.  For more infromation regarding the rally contact the church at 989-799-4200.

Min. Rhonda Webb encourages more churches to take advantage of this type of an event to reach out to families in their own areas.  Understanding that the collective cooperation of neighbors can bring about a great and more time efficient change to the problems that threaten the neighborhoods and communities in which we live and work, should motivate each and every individual to ask themselves the question, Got Kom * mu ni-ti?  If the answer is not "yes" then the next question should be "What can I do to change it?"  For more information you can  email Min. Rhonda Webb at rhonda@crossthestreet.org.

Go ahead and make a change and a new friend today.
