Building Strong Communities One Block at a Time!

One campaign
About Cross the Street

Cross the Street, Inc. is an organization established to create, foster and enhance the concept of community through various creative initiatives.  One such initiative is Cross the Street Day, an event that builds community as neighborhood residents are encouraged to cross the street and introduce themselves to a new neighbor.  This annual event occurs the third Saturday in May and conveniently operates within the confines of one’s own neighborhood block.  As these relationships are established and fostered, the result is stronger as people begin to recognize and value the enjoyment these relationships can lend to their own lives.

Cross the Street Day goes beyond the neighborhood block. It encourages people to put to practice the lost virtue of hospitality as they encounter each other throughout the day. Imagine a day where we made eye contact and said “Hi” to everyone we came across.  It becomes a catalyst for informally greeting the people we encounter throughout the day, with a simple act of welcome such as a warm smile and a cordial greeting.

Businesses and organizations can also reap the benefits of Cross the Street Day by developing individual, creative events or programs to interact with the people they serve.  Its an ideal opportunity for Neighborhood Associations to plan social gatherings, churches may want to host an Open House to reach out to their neighboring communities and City Leaders could host a ‘Meet and Greet’ Day that would allow the Mayors, Law Enforcement Personnel and other public servants, the opportunity to have interaction with the people within their jurisdiction.  Cross the Street Day is designed to be tailored to the individual needs of the community it operates within.
